Quilts that Care, Inc. would like to thank its donors and the Connecticut Community Foundation for helping the organization to raise $2,570 during the recent two-day 2024 Give Local Campaign.
Quilts that Care, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit organization, makes and donates quilts to cancer patients at 20 Connecticut facilities.
The facilities are The Cancer Care Center at Griffin Hospital, Derby; The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, Dr. Nicole Sookhan of Trinity Health of New England and Saint Mary’s VITAS in Waterbury; Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington; Connecticut Childrens’ Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Also, Norwalk Hospital; The Yale/Smilow Cancer Center in New Haven; Bristol Hospital; The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain; Hartford HealthCare at Home, Watertown and Southington; Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Litchfield County, Winsted; AccentCare, Middlebury; Midstate Medical Center, Meriden; University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington and Veteran’s Hospital, Newington. Also, the Diebold Family Cancer Center in New Milford and Danbury Hospital.
The Quilts that Care mission is to “wrap cancer patients and their families in comfort and hope, one quilt at a time.”

Thanks to the Connecticut Community Foundation
Quilts that Care, Inc. would like to thank the Connecticut Community Foundation for its award of a $2,589 grant in May, 2024, for the purchase of batting and backing for 40 quilts for cancer patients from Southbury, and for the purchase of two flag signs to be printed with the Quilts that Care name for placement at Quilts that Care headquarters.
Quilts that Care, Inc. would like to thank the David, Helen, and Marian Woodward Fund – Watertown for the recent award of an $8,000 grant for the purchase of a long-arm quilting machine.
The David, Helen and Marian Woodward Fund (Watertown) makes grants to qualified 501(c)(3) organizations in New York and in the New England states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
As stated in the Will of Marian Woodward Ottley, the fund’s mission is “to make this a better world for those who come after us.”

Quilts that Care added the Diebold Family Cancer Center at New Milford Hospital, and Danbury Hospital to the roster of 19 cancer facilities to which it donates its one-of-a-kind quilts. Both hospitals are in the Nuvance Health network of hospitals.

Thomaston, CT – Thomaston Savings Bank recently donated a grant to Quilts that Care to assist in funding necessary supplies and equipment. Quilts that Care is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, whose mission is to wrap cancer patients and their families in comfort and hope, one quilt at a time.

Quilts that Care was founded in 2012 by Deborah Van Steenbergen and a handful of friends. Together they have provided more than 5,700 hand-made quilts to cancer patients across the state. The organization has a dedicated group of more than 65 volunteers who craft the quilts and then are distributed through partnerships with 17 facilities devoted to cancer care. Quilts That Care ORTV CT 2022
Quilts That Care is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization located in Connecticut, focused on providing hope and support to cancer patients. The group was founded in April 2012 by Deborah and Robert Van Steenbergen and a handful of friends. It has blossomed into a group of 100+ volunteer team members dedicated to giving comfort and hope to individuals currently undergoing cancer treatment. We invite you to learn more about the group and how you can help make a difference in the lives of our family, friends, and neighbors.

Each quilt is handmade by a single group member or a team of group members. Some quilts are created with a specific patient in-mind featuring a favorite color or hobby, but all are lovingly created for the same purpose – to provide warmth and comfort to those undergoing cancer treatment. Our inspiration is, and forever will be, each and every individual cancer patient. Their hope and strength inspire us all
